NASA educational site I found using Celestia
The stuff looks pretty current and in fact, when you click on the planets, it starts up Celestia like a script..

question using hi-res Sol textures as a G star base texture?
Like the title says...
I have Runar's great Sol textures, so is it feasible to use his textures as a base for all Gstars, instead of just the regular texture...

Re: 1.5.0 changes
So with 1.5x
what about Titan's two cloud layers & the haze layers at 200 km, and the Methane clouds at 10km
would we still have to create 2 "sphere's" and have each one with thier own atmosphere
Or can we have multiple cloud sets on each planet this time?

http://www.stellar-database.com/ on the search for star by name... Put in Proxima Cen then click Submit Query, and it spits out the info I posted above..:) as far as Proxima Cen having .145 rad, try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxima_Centauri http://www.solstation.com/stars/alp-cent3.htm http://ww...
doctrellor, Celestia uses data only from formal astronomical databases, not information that happens to wander in off the street ;)
I guess professional astronomers in Europe are just presenting info "off the street" from my post above..lol Mass: 0.123 x Sol Source...

Proxima Cen needs an update...:)
In Celestia, it shows up as .08 rad, when in real life, it's .145 rad. I have tried to change it in the nearstars.stc, but it doesm't wanna change it..:P here is relevant info on Proxima Cen --------------- Component Proxima: Proper names: Proxima Centauri, V645 Centauri, Alpha Centauri Proxima, Alp...

Re: 2 sets of clouds
The spheres radius would be say 1 km radius less than the main planet, so one never sees the "ghost" underneath Is this basically the technique you speak of? Yes, though the size of the "ghost" is irrelevant, as long as it is less than the upper atmosphere layer: you can define it as a CMOD model, ...

Re: 2 sets of clouds
I saw that thread, and got some "updated" info for Titan... thx but going to the 'old way' I guess Atmosphere 1 being the main planet Atmosphere { Height 500 Lower [ 0.477 0.367 0.211 ] Upper [ 0.96 0.805 0.461 ] Sky [ 0.3 0 0 ] Sunset [ 1.0 0.6 0.2 ] CloudHeight 220 CloudSpeed 65 CloudMap "titan-cl...

2 sets of clouds
ON Titan, we have obviously the thick "brown haze" at 200km, and the Methane clouds at ~10 km so we have 2 sets So on out .ssc, can we have multiple cloud sets, so that when were on the surface, we can see them? something like this... Atmosphere { Height 500 Lower [ 0.477 0.367 0.211 ] Upper [ 0.96 ...

Using textures: Copywritten or Public Domain?
II know it's a strange question, since the textures are creative works and therefore covered under copyright laws, but I was curious, are textures copyright material, when we show a planet from Celestia on our website? If it is cropyright material, how would we cite it? since the pic is from Celesti...

Re: Trying to see the sky & sun thru the atmosphere
I'm using 1.4.1 The planet I had, I made a thin atmosphere, just like Mars. so it's a ruddy brown color, and the sky is fine in the daytime sky, so I figure I'd see a big reddish brown dwarf hanging in the middle of it, but when I took atmosphere off, the sky became black (like nighttime) and I coul...

Trying to see the sky & sun thru the atmosphere
having atmosphere checked, it's thin enough to see the planetary orbits and even a close planet, but the anti-azimuth setting seems to block out the sun I wanted to see what sun would look like thru the atmosphere and take a screenie..:) I used cntr-G & cntr-F for the Planetarium setting to be o...

Re: strange issue with a ssc file
OK, I finally got 1 thing thru my thick skull.. use multiple .ssc files for each "group" of objects in the system so I am finally going with 5 .ssc per star 1) asteroid belt 2) Comets 3) planets 4) Kuiper Belt stuff/Oort cloud stuff 5) Misc stuff I finally 'saw the light' after going thru the "solar...

BD showing 1 orbit
After trying my .ssc numerous times, I tried an experiment.. using the our solar system as a .ssc file for the BD and it only shows Mercury, and not the rest, so 1 lousy orbit... So I figure I messed up somewhere in my .ssc, but with the default solarsystem .ssc, there is nothing wrong with it, so f...

Re: brown dwarf companion question
Yeah, that's what I origianlly did, do the barycenter at that RA/Dec & Distance and have the 2 stars orbit the barycenter so with the M3V/BD having a 20:1 difference, I wasn't sure how to tweak the period/orbit correctly, even though I read the stc guide like 3 times. I saw the BD in Celestia, s...
