Re: Any of you had strange dreams of Celestia?
I have weird dreams but they're not about Celestia...they're about crocodiles and pyramids and giants who eat policemen...but we won't go into that. Re: Feature request: moving nightlight layer
Looks nice D.E !
If this was captured from Celestia, on a planet, would you mind zooming out a bit so we can see the whole thing, and up the ambient lighting a bit ? A bit hard to see the effect of it otherwise.....just fluctuating white patches.

Re: Nebulae in 1.2.6
This all looks too good to be true, so I'd better ask some skeptical questions... 1) Are these 3DS meshes volumetric, or just pictures on hemishperes like Rassillion's (which I shamefully have not downloaded yet  ) ? Nothing wrong with that of course, just would like to know. 2) How big will t...

Re: Sad day for the Space shuttle & Crew
It is indeed a terrible tradgedy, but I doubt that manned space flight is in serious jeopardy. As Bush said "Our journey into space will continue" (or words to that effect. The Shuttle is the workhorse of the US space programme - too much is invested it to cancel it. A manned mission to Mars never r...

Re: Number of visible stars
Fairly close, I think the actual estimated number of visible stars is more like 6000, but lets not quible over details, it's definately under 10,000.... and I doubt I could spot the difference anyway !

Re: Orbits dissapear behind bodies
I heard a while ago that this is suprisingly difficult to do, something about having to compute two halves of the orbit, one which goes behind and the other which goes in front. And then they have to change depending on your viewpoint....(can anyone clarify this a bit ?) No doubt those clever progra...

Re: HIP 80769 Red Trinary System
Thanks for the "emmisive" thing, selden. Can you also control the amount of emission ? In case you don't believe my terragen method, here's another pic : www.geocities.com/rhysy2/bigfloatingrock.jpg Edit : sorry it's a geocities page. In the unlikely event anyone doesn't already know, you have to co...

Re: A few suggestions.
At least one of those features is already available ! Black holes with accretion discs - see Bruckner's add-on repository. The adress can be found on the Celestia home page, somewhere. I don't know about any of the others, I decided to quit watching the prereleases of 1.25, wait for the final versio...

Re: HIP 80769 Red Trinary System
I really like that top picture ! Did you do those glows in Celestia ? If so, HOW ?!?! You could quite easily make the rocky bit underneath the planet more rocky using terragen. Here's something I whipped up in about 15 minutes. I did a bit of modeling (stretching) on the terrain mesh using Blender. ...

Feature idea - powerpoint-style scripts
It's nice to see teachers are using Celestia - wish they'd had astronomy on the syllabus in the UK. Anyway, last week I started university, studying physics with astronomy (or possibly astrophysics I haven't decided yet :) ) and one of the lectures was a powerpoint slide-show tour of the universe. A...

Re: Do you want lens flares in Celestia ?
That's nice to know, Chris - if there's one thing Celestia lacks, it's realistic lighting. On the other hand that's yet another feature that would have to be optional- wouldn't be much of a view close to a star.

Re: Do you want lens flares in Celestia ?
Well, I wear glasses so I see bright halos with streaky lines around every bright light source (maybe I should clean them more often...). Never seen a lens flare though. What kind of circumstances ?

I can't seem to download this file. When the time gets to "1 sec remaining", or "99% complete" or whatever, it just freezes. Any idea why this might be ?

Re: Feature Requests for 1.2.5 Final
Chris, could you include planetary gravity effects There's already an add-on for gravity effects to the observer - search the forum, or try the add-on repository. Could we have an option to turn off moon orbits please ? I like them, but they do tend to clutter the screen around the gas giants.

Do you want lens flares in Celestia ?
Lots of people have said lots of things about lens flares recently, but to my knowledge there hasn't been a poll to get a vaguely accurate idea as to the consensus of the community about this. It seems to me that people who have been using Celestia a while don't want them, but people who just discov...

Oooooooooohhh.....!!!!!!!!!!
Aaaaaaaahhhh........!!!!!
Things are really getting interesting now (even more so than they were before).... comet tails (when 1.2.5 is fully released, could it come with a Giotto probe mesh ? ) black holes, gravity effects.... all I have to say is, Wow !

Re: Want Nebulae in Celestia
Err.... no offence, but that's the daftest question for a poll I've ever seen !
Of COURSE we want nebulae !!!! What kind of brain-dead moron wouldn't ?
Unless, as is likely, I am missing something obvious here ?

Re: Spacecraft modelling
AFAIK Mad Boris, textures applied to the model in a modelling program won't show up in Celestia. You need to use the ssc file to point to a texture with Texture "whatever.jpg". Thanks, Sum0, I didn't know that ! Actually I haven't got round to applying textures yet (supposing I did - could I apply ...
