Re: More textures for the sun
What has happened when you've added an ssc for the Sun is that the fake planet has appeared, but Celestia can't find whatever texture you've specified, so it's colouring the surface white. Grant Hi Grant, thanks for the reply. The thing is, that the problem with the white surface exists without any...

Re: More textures for the sun
The sun is yellow, but it has no texture...well...kind of. The atmosphere is yellow but the globe is white and beneath this white 'sheet' is where the texture lies, as I have flown beneath the white 'sheet' and can see the texture. Sol is the only star affected this way. I have tried the advice give...

Does this script work? { select { object "Sol/Earth" } synchronous {} gotolonglat { time 5 distance 1.0001 longitude 144.97 latitude -37.77 } wait { duration 5.1 } select { object "Rigel Kentaurus A" } track {} ...
Re: Start.cel
Your script has me facing towards an area near the star, Alnath, 205.69AU from Earth. It does face Rigel Kentaurus, not near Alnath....don't know what happened there. Though I don't think that this would cause your problem: What version of Celestia do you have? Ok...things are looking a little dark...
Re: Start.cel
Hi Harald, I have read Don's very helpful guide....and yeah, I forgot about the wait commands. But, alas, still no success. Your script has me facing towards an area near the star, Alnath, 205.69AU from Earth. I'll re-read Don's guide...again :?....I must be missing the essential info i'm looking fo...
Re: Start.cel
Hi Maxim
Yeah, I tried that...but, still the same. I was meant to take the 'cancel{}' out before posting this...sorry...it was an attempt to force the view towards Rigel...no luck, unfortunately.
Thanks anyway
Chris

Hi, I'm trying to get celstia to start me off on the surface of the suburb I live in, so I could check the local sky out, before I wizz off into the deep unknown. I tried to get the script happening by going to the surface of the suburb I live in and then have it center on Rigel Kentaurus ( circumpo...

So it's best to avoid 'shadowed' texture maps....unless they're pretty special.
Thanks for the clarification and tips. It's nice to understand how these things work in the hope of better control.
Much appreciated
Chris

Um....Pass me the syrup, please.....
....I'm seeing pancakes 8O I have read of this effect some time ago, but can't find it, even when using the search engine. I'm wondering what is the cause for craters to suddenly invert into pancake-like features, Olympus Mons deflating into a hollow, Valles Marinaris turning into a mountain range.....

Cannot associate cel:urls with Celestia
Hi anyone, I have tried Frank's Activities 1.2 and 2.2 and found that the hyperlinks don't work for me. Tried to get around the problem with Frank and in the end, was advised to post this problem in the bugs forum. When I click on the hyperlink, the message, "The address of this site is not valid. C...

Re: Celestia Educational Activities - Get them here!
Hi Frank, Thanks for your help and effort...much appreciated. I'll do a bit more research and if unsuccessful, I'll post the problem in the "Please report problems with the MacOS X version here" thread. I feel pretty confident that there will be a way of getting over this problem...just have to be p...

Terrier...You are a legend. Thanks a heap. The links you gave are fantastic and Grant's programs are brilliant...Just finished the data for Columbia and the sense of realism is a tad stronger. By the way...I downloaded your Mariner 10 file. I found that the word 'beginning' in the ssc file was missp...

Re: Celestia Educational Activities - Get them here!
Hi Frank, Hmmm...problem. When installing Celestia on a Mac, it only involves 'drag and drop'. There is no installation process with a window prompting me to configure the app....bugger  I spent a good part of the morn learning about hyperlinks...but no success in solving the problem...I'm kind...

Columbia Launch Times for all it's Missions
For those who would like to see the Columbia Shuttle appear and disappear during its missions...here you go. For those missions without ending times...an average mission seems to be 7-14 days long on average. I hope this post isn't to long...I'll be doing the other shuttles as well, but, if this is ...

I have dreamt of this software for over 20years...Now, it's destroying my life...no sleep, an insomniac creating a comfortable padded room in his mind with its walls disappearing into this wonderous place we call 'universe'...I love it...This software is the most fascinating of all softwares. It has...

Re: Celestia Educational Activities - Get them here!
Hi Frank, I tried out Activities 1.2 and 2.2 and they're great. Unfortunately, the links in the word document don't work for me. I went through it manually as best I can but it would be nice to have the activities flow smoothly...save a bit of time. I'm using Celestia 1.3.1-1 on a Mac OSX...for anyo...

Re: Stars marked for dead...would like to save them
Brilliant, Seldon. Much appreciation for your help and nudge towards my next lesson...scripts  I also think it would be a nice feature to have the ability to click on two stars and know the distance between them, without the need to go to one of the stars, in order to find the distance. It's a...

Stars marked for dead...would like to save them
Hi, I'm disappointed that I cannot save marked stars as marked, so that I can continue researching distribution of nearby stars, types of stars, etc. I am using Celestia 1.3.1-1 OSX version, so I don't have the feature "StarBrowser". I have some idea of it, but, would like to know if this feature gi...
