Re: Animated virtual textures

This is coded within Celestia's core (C++). Most of the work is done by OpenGL using hardware acceleration. Here's how an animated texture is declared, just expanding the usual texture definition: Modify "Earth" "Sol" { # An animated albedo map spanning one year, # showing E...

Animated virtual textures

As an experiment, I implemented animated virtual textures for Celestia (in fact, this also works with "common" textures). Here's a short video in (.ogg, ~12 MB, ~1.5 min length) showing full seasonal coverage for the whole Earth. http://www.sendspace.com/file/d89kep Some possible uses: *Depiction of...

Not blindingly bright, but a quite uncomfortable brightness can indeed be simulated:

Re: Star rendering

Personally, I don't think that Toti's disks are much of an improvement. These are mockups made in Photoshop by ElChristou, not by me. I thought we have agreed a long time ago that we shall basically model the appearance of the Universe as recorded by the naked eye (or an equivalent sensor) !? This ...

Star rendering

I attach two mockups for alternate (close range) star rendering, proposed by ElChristou. What do you people say? Would this be an improvement over current rendering or not? http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7017/40813827bn2.th.jpg http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8500/85152561ny9.th.jpg

Re: Flare issue on Basic and Multitexture mode

I am unable to replicate this bug with current CVS version. But I reproduced it with a previous version (slightly older than pre5).

I think this is another manifestation of this bug. It would be great if other people could confirm.

Re: Constellations and star's name related...

Fridger, I did that diff before posting my last message above. That's why I wrote: But now that you mention it, the internal data is different from the current asterisms.dat. And Christophe's initial post was concerned with the problems found in e.g. Auriga, so that's the domain that I found most re...

Re: Constellations and star's name related...

Fridger's constellations are taken from some file in this page: http://www.skymap.com/constellations.htm That is not correct, if I remember well. I certainly used that url for some ideas about other implementations of asterisms, but mine were largely derived from our asterisms that we made for XEph...

Re: Constellations and star's name related...

Fine, but... I am not sure that I get the meaning of that emoticon. Didn't you ask for the reason of the triangular shape with 6 points? Off course, but Toti, your response here don't enlighten me much about the reason of 6 entries when 3 are enough to draw a triangle! (Ok, sometime I'm a no...

Re: Constellations and star's name related...

ElChristou wrote:Why 6 stars are used to define this shape (a triangle!) in asterism.dat?

One is included twice ("Eta Aur") and "To Aur" (?) is never found in the database and thus ignored, so we end up with 3+2 points, two of them in the "same" place. This is the triangle that's being drawn.

Re: Dynamic Cloud Shadows

Fridger, I can't run Celestia in the OpenGL2.0 renderpath (my new pc has one of these very limited intel built-in cards) Just in case, have you tried using a low res base texture (and no specular/night/normal maps) with those clouds instead of a VT? EDIT: You just answered this question in cross pos...

Fridger,

Could you please post two screenshots taken from the same POV, one of them rendered as wireframe only?

You must comment out (or remove) Celestia.dsw from celestia/src/Makefile.am.

Re: Can't toggle the fps readout on gtk

Vincent, Yes, in the Spanish keyboard it's also a deadkey used for the French/Catalan grave diacritic: in a text editor you usually have to press space in order to print it as an independent character. But in Celestia-KDE it just works with the first hit (as with the console key you mentioned). In G...
