Bravo SimFan. You're video is indeed remarkable. It is also educational in that it explains to me why my Celestia's view of the shadows appeared wrong to me and now I see where I was not able to define between a shadow and a moon with a very low albedo.
Good job.

Here is what I see on Mar 28, 2004 at 07:31:06 UTC http://members.aol.com/bassratman/JupiterTripleTransitShadowsCelestia Not quite the same as the video on Sky & Telescope http://members.aol.com/bassratman/JupiterTripleTransitShadowsSkyandTelescope plus their movie evolved into 4 shadows on the surf...

Just saw my first Iridium flare
I just saw my first Iridium flare tonight! Wow, very bright, quite impressive. It only last a few seconds and then I could it moving as it faded. It was a -5 and appeared in the sky exactly where and when the heavens-above web site had predicted. I look forward to seeing more of them. :D Thank you E...

Re: script help - cannot display comet's orbit
Yes indeed... This would be an SSC file. That leads me to my next question though. Where do you have it located? In extras? Or, have you installed the code into the solarsys.ssc file like the other comets?] Bob, I installed the code into the solarsys.ssc file like the other comets. You can try to p...

Re: Comet name disappears when orbit is hyperbolic
I too am experiencing the same problem in Celestia 1.3.1 not displaying the orbit for this comet whereas it does for the other comets on my system. I questioned if whether the problem was because the orbit is non-eriodic and hyperbolic instead of elliptical. I posted a question about this in another...

viewing comet's orbit
Bob, thanks for your response. Yes, I too have to back waaay off from the comet just to see the tail, let alone the orbit. The orbit display works for all the comets on my system, but not for this one. Yes, I have a check mark in the box for comets/orbit. And yes, my version has that same effect in ...

script help - cannot display comet's orbit
I tried to write a script to view the soon visible comet LINEAR C/2002 T7. It appears to place the comet in the right place at the right time, but I cannot view it's orbit like I can with the other comets. This is a non periodic hyperbolic orbit, is that why? Or have I got this all wrong? (If I can ...

Re: asteroid 2004 FH near-miss flyby
It works!!!! I can see it, even when I size 2004FH down to it's proper size.
Thank you very much ElPelado. You have been a great help. I have a lot to learn about this stuff, including that confusing time issue.
What a delight to have gotten this to work.

Re: asteroid 2004 FH near-miss flyby
The orbit looks right, it intersects with Earth, etc., but the object itself is no where near Earth, it is about 1/4 an orbit around Sol away from Earth at this date. Can anyone help? Here is what I inserted into solarsys.ssc "2004 FH" "Sol" { Class "asteroid" Texture "asteroid.jpg" Radius 1737 # sh...

asteroid 2004 FH
Thank you so much seldon & ElPelado for the quick responses. I did finally find the orbital info on NASA's Near Earth Objects Program website http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/neo_elem . Thank you for putting that same info into Celestia can use, ElPelado. I need to go to that link on how to translate...

asteroid 2004 FH near-miss flyby
Asteroid 2004 FH near-miss flyby. How does one get the data on this asteroid's path and orbit? And how do you turn that into an SSC file? It would be interesting to put the correct date & time into Celstia and perhaps see it whiz by so close and then turn on display asteroid orbits and see where it'...

Re: installing add ons
:D Thank you Seldon. The problem was resolved by changing the date for the Huygens Probe and for the Venus Magellan orbiter. For a newbie using Celestia, I would never have figured this out on my own. I find in incredable that people are so intelligent & resourceful as to be able to write the scc sc...

Oops. I spoke too soon. The start.cell posted by HS doesn't work for me. I end up far out in space looking at a fuzzy cloud named Milky Way. A nice view, but not the expected view of Saturn, that's for sure. I am using Celestia V1.3.1, is that the problem? I have been having trouble with addi...

Re: Newbie question about Celestia
That's great HS. Good job.
How about a script to open Celestia with a view of the Earth instead? If you have time to modify that script for Earth.
Thank you.

installing add ons
Seldon, thank you for the link. It fixed the problem I was having seeing nebula add ons. I am still having some problems. I installed Jack's Huygens Probe but I can't see it. Celstia goes someplace but no spacecraft graphic when it gets there. I installed the Venus Magellan Orbiter. It goes to the r...
