Use the celx script included in this small addon. It will draw the Betty Hill map in Celestia 1.6.x.
Please, note that I WILL NOT make any modification or repairs for you. I'm giving this old addon for free. Do wathever you want with it!

Drop the unzipped folder into your addons directory, and use the included script (put it inside your scripts directory). Visit the "Suffering Earth", "Suffering Mars" and "Suffering Jupiter" ("Terre Souffrante", "Mars Souffrante" and "Jupiter So...

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia
Gironde, all of your models are suffering from a smoothing problem. The curved surfaces are all polygonal with clear faces, while they should be smooth. There's something wrong you're doing for the curved surfaces, with your modeler.

The Curiosity model is already available elsewhere on the forum, fully texturized with normal mapping.

That code is working with Celestia 1.7.0. The units in the code should be included in the standard 1.7.0 version. I don't think it's related to the .sci version.

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated December 30, 2017
I've downloaded Celestia Origin from one of the links given on the first page. The zip files appears to be non-standard in some way, and I had to use some special utility on my Mac to unzip the pack :spy: . I successfully uncompressed the file and extracted a few parts to play with. I noticed that t...

Re: Celestia on a Mac My students need to use their own ssc creation
Selden, it's the same in the GUI as in a console. In the UNIX console, you type cd Cel* (in the directory which contains the Celestia app) and you're in! If you type ls -l , then you'll see the internal of the app (shown as a folder, with probably the .app file extension). In OS X, we rarely use the...

Re: Celestia on a Mac My students need to use their own ssc creation
Selden, in OS X, all apps are "packets", i.e a special kind of folder (with an app icon) containing all sorts of app ressources inside (data, codes, icon files, binary, ...). The CelestiaRessources folder is part of these "guts" inside the app. OS X is a flavor of full UNIX. Any ...

Yep ! This is how I lost most of my pictures published here, a "long time" ago.

Re: Celestia on a Mac My students need to use their own ssc creation
The CelestiaResources folder could be placed inside the Application Support folder, but it's really an annoying choice . By default, it is located inside the application itself. The best option, is to extract it from the app, and place it freely outside the app, in the same folder as the app itself....

Re: Celestia on a Mac My students need to use their own ssc creation
Celestia has exactly the same folder structure on a Mac as on a PC ! You just need to locate the ressources folder inside the application itself (i.e. in the app's "internal").
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: More Detail for Minor Moons
I simply applied some arbitrary (but very cool looking) textures on the model, as a test. The model itself doesn't have the proper shape anyway.
You can easily change the textures used in the CMOD text file. We'll have to wait for someone to give away the proper textures for Pan, I guess.

Re: More Detail for Minor Moons
Hey! This give me the envy of returning to Celestia modeling! :eh: I played a bit with the pan model, quickly adding polygons and smoothing the model. I applied some texture with normal mapping from someone here (I'm not sure who made these very nice textures. Probably John). Here's the model for yo...

Re: Mark all stars within a 40ly radius?
Here's a CELX script that selects all the stars in a radius of 100 LY, relative to your current stellar selection. You can easily edit it to your taste and needs : -- Title: All stars inside a sphere of radius 100 LY, centered on your current selection. -- Mark all stars in a sphere centered on the ...

Re: How to generate 20 million stars for a spiral galaxy?
Which spiral galaxy ? At what distance from the Sol ? And a 20 M_stars STC database would be insane at loading time and memory usage. The Celestia search field would fall to a crawl, i.e. become totally unusable (waaaay too slow, unusable !). I know! I've done it before with a 2 Mstars file only. La...

Re: Gravitational waves from NGC 4993
A spacetime location in Celestia would be... lost in spacetime ! Without a script, it would be difficult to find. I prefer a permanent location billboard, using a single sprite. I'll test a proof of concept later. Here's another version, with a sprite billboard. The picture could be changed very eas...

Ok, I got it right ! Here's a very preliminary addon displaying something weird at the proper location, near NGC 4993. Re: Gravitational waves from NGC 4993
I don't think these coordinates are in the proper frame for a Celestia DSC object. We need a conversion tool.
