Earth texture disappears
I am using the 8k dds earth texture and I am having a problem with it disappearing when I zoom out. Seems to occur at around 540,000 km away. If I have clouds or nightsides turned on I can still see thos but no earth tex. This is with preview 4

Re: Asteroid belts
It should be possible to add asteroids orbiting where the belt is but how many asteroids would Celestia support? I'm sure its possible. It would probably have to be done on the fly in the program rather than be a real belt of millions of rocks orbiting in space. I wonder if the same could be achieve...

Screenshots warped
When I capture an image file using 1.2.4 preview the pic is only the top half of the screen but stretched out to full screen dimensions. This happens whether you save as .jpg or .png

Here are some links to Opengl programming for you. These are mostly concerned with game programming and SDL but you should find these useful

Re: Project starting.
This program only crashes for me when I exit. They are porting it to linux right now and hopefully newer versions will come out after that. Now that blender is dead this is probably the best free 3d modeller/animator available

Re: Project starting.
Try a program called openFX. Its free and opensource http://www.openfx.org/news/index.php In the windows preview version of 1.2.4 there is a "load file" command to load cel files. The goto sometimes jumps because the program may be pausing while loading a texture for that planet to rotate you view u...

Dissapearing Earth
I have been using the new hires texture but I have noticed that earth8k.dds disappears when you are more than 500,000 km (approx) away. If I turn on the cloud maps I can see those from that distance but the main texture is invisible. If I switch back to using the original medres texture it works fin...

Re: New Celestia Mod: Choir of Angels
Internal mp3 playback would be good for presentations as you could have different themed music for different sections of your presentation. This would be harder to time with an external prog like winamp. You would probably also want a cross fader with this to make the transitions seamless if one pie...

Re: New Celestia Mod: Choir of Angels
My point about putting the ability to play music or sound files from within Celestia is not just so I can groove to tunes while surfing around the solar system. I believe that it would be a valuable addition to a great educational tool. Imagine you are a science teacher or you make presentations at ...

Re: pasting images
Nope there is no way to post images on this board or most any board for that matter, without storing them somewhere on your own personal webspace. If your isp doesn't provide you with space then you can sign up for free ones like geocities http://www.geocities.com/rogerve/parrot.gif

Re: Celestia 1.2.4 preview
What I am trying to do in essence is manually "fly" an orbit around an object but while observing it in tracking mode. This is like what a padlock view would do on a flight sim. You can still make the proper course corrections but the camera looks at the object. Right now the camera moves in a strai...

Re: New Celestia Mod: Choir of Angels
This is great but I miss all the controls and menus of Celestia. Maybe Chris will consider adding sound support in the future. Or at least add some remote controls for winamp as a temp solution I think the ultimate would be to be able to play multiple streams such as a soundtrack while playing voice...

Re: Celestia 1.2.4 preview
1.2.4 works great so far. 2002 EM7 gets a little closer than reality on Mar 8 but its much more accurate than before. I'll check out some more neo's and let you know. You don't list the key for the new "phase lock" mode in the controls list. Is that what the : key is doing? I do have one beef about ...

Re: pasting images
You need to store the image somewhere like on you personal web site and the link to it by using the BBCode tags. When you create a message down near the bottom it says options. you can click on BBCode and it will explain all the BBCode tags to do stuff like that

Re: Documentaion and...
You could do what you are suggesting now by modifying the demo.cel file. Create your own tour of the solar system and use the print function do display whatever text you want. You may have to tinker a bit to figure out the syntax but it seems not too hard. Hopefully there will be more complete docum...

The only problem I see with using this is that the library is windows only and the free version will only accept images for input of less than 500 megs
