Re: UPDATE 20, OCT. 2011: Fictional Star System: Odin System
I use the ImageMagick command line utility "convert" to change image resolutions (and to do many other image manipulations). It can do a whole directory of images with just one command, although it'll take a while. ImageMagick is free. http://www.imagemagick.org/ I haven't downloaded your...

Re: UPDATE 20, OCT. 2011: Fictional Star System: Odin System
the asteroid belt is currently visible from any point in the solar system. i like this because it looks kinda cool from the surface of an inhabited planet, but it is highly unrealistic. but who knows, this is a fictional system and it's my imagination so i could say that the "asteroid" bel...

Re: UPDATE 20, OCT. 2011: Fictional Star System: Odin System
this is the system so far with recycled textures obviously. most everything is in place, i am going to add two new comets soon, Geri and Freki. and the big part is making my own textures. that will take the most time, so for placeholders, i'm just using some nice textures from other addons i have in...

Re: making planets using "planet"
that was literally the most confusing thing i've ever read. i don't understand how this can be so complicated. why would you want to go through all that trouble just to make a simple fractal terrain generator? is it better somehow? does it make the terrain look more realistic?

Re: New accretion disk method (WORK IN PROGRESS)
Ok, here's the ring used around our Sun (just as a test) : EDIT : And the sprites may even be used as special markers, or even billboards floating always face-on in space. Sadly, the sprite size appears to be limited (can't be bigger than on this picture). billboard.jpg [/quote] so i downloaded your...

Re: How to make rings with MSPaint and GIMP
There are already LOTS of ring and accretion disk models available on the forum. Why don't you use the search button to find them ? thank you i like your suggestions. but i don't think i want to have such a heavy thing in my system. it might make my computer lag out too much. i just want a 2d ring ...

Re: Fictional Star System: Odin System
You don't need to spend money to get a decent paint program. Paint.net is reasonably good. Gimp is a more sophisticated paint program, but somewhat harder to learn. i will try paint.net thank you i have gimp but i haven't come across any "clone" type functions yet. i'll have to mess with ...

Re: Re-Mapping the "H" key.
You can use a CelX script to remap just about any key. I prefer to create a .HTML file containing URLs of several favorite viewpoints. Clicking on a Cel:// URL will take Celestia to that viewpoint immediately. If Celestia isn't running, it'll start Celestia, too. (Type a Ctrl-C while Celestia is ru...

Re: How to make rings with MSPaint and GIMP
Rings only go around planets. You can place a planet at the center of the Sun (SemiMajorAxis 0) and make large rings around that. However, Celestia's rings are continuous. They aren't made up of lots of tiny objects like you'd expect to see in a dense asteroid belt. You might need to consider creat...

Re-Mapping the "H" key.
i recently created a new fictional star system and whenever i load celestia i'm instantly going there to work on it and such. i don't mind starting at earth, or typing in the new star's name to get there. not a big deal. just wondering if i could get celestia to either start in/at my new system, or ...

Re: Fictional Star System: Odin System
I use cygwin to do compilations under Windows, but it does require some familiarity with Unix and linux conventions. Yes, I've created a few Addons myself. Some are on the Motherlode, some are elsewhere, some are still in progress after many years of not being able to get them just right... i've tr...
