Re: The New Mars Texture
I also still find myself a bit unhappy with the way textures are handled at the Motherload. That is why I still have a standing request that they not carry any of my newer textures. I am also seriously thinging if asking them to remove the older ones. I know it is causeing some confusion as to what...

Re: Celestia 1.4.0 is ready
It'd be nice to have a RESET TO DEFAULT hard-coded but I understand if that's not a priority. If enough people think this is useful, this feature could be added to Celestia (OS X) in the form of a button that you could press in the Preferences panel, or perhaps a menu item like in Safari. This woul...

OK, then I think I can solve Frank's problem as soon as I hear from dirkpitt about the syntax and limitations of the extras dir command syntax.

Re: Celestia 1.4 FT1.1ish OS X Build 10-13-2005 !!!!!
Hi, I'm also glad you're back dirkpitt. Could you specify more about the extrasDirs switch? Can you simply specify an entire directoy that contains add-on folders, or do you have to specify each add-on individually, as you did in the example? And do you have to specify absolute paths, or which direc...

Hi, For descriptions of the SSC parameters, see the relevant sections of the Motherldoe Documentation. http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/documentation.html Thomas Guilpain also has some good explanations of SSC properties at his site. http://members.fortunecity.com/guilpain/index_uk.htm Cheers, ...

Re: Celestia/GTK+ under Win32.
Hi Pat, I believe that Qt, the framework behind KDE, already runs natively under Mac OS X, Windows and X11, and is released under the GPL. I know next to nothing about GUI development, but if the KDE code is really the most advanced GUI for Celestia so far, it may be best to use Qt to port those int...

Hi Hank,
Oh. I never thought about it that way. What would you suggest as the best way to change the start-up parameters of Celestia - storing the settings in the preferences .plist file?
Cheers,
Joe

Re: Celestia 1.4 FT1.1ish OS X Build 10-13-2005 !!!!!
HI, So how hard would it be to add proper argv support to the Mac version of Celestia? Presumably this would include an error message when unrecognized flags are passed. This seems rather important, especially since Frank's Educational Activities will soon rely on specifcying alternate config files....

Re: Celestia 1.4 FT1.1ish OS X Build 10-13-2005 !!!!!
Hi, As far as I can tell, the optional config file flag is NOT working under Mac OS X 10.4.3. Celestia starts fine under the command line, but including any kind of flag appears to have no effect on what the program actually does. I tested this by typing ./Celestia --config2.cfg to point to a config...

Re: [attn:Clive Pottinger] CelX Visual Guide
Hi Clive, Asking for money for a product is in no way a violation of the GPL. You are free to charge for whatever, you want as long as, roughly, you share the source for any changes to a GPL'd collection of code that you make. You may want to do some googling to learn more about the specifics of the...

Hi,
Could you tell me what is incomplete or too technical about the instructions at http://celestiamotherlode.net/install_howto.html ? Please try to be as specific as possible, and I will update the page to make it easier for you and other newcomers to get up to speed quickly.
Cheers,

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your laptop.
Can you PLEASE edit the subject of this post so that it doesn't take up so much room? It messes up the layout of the site on my computer.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi JLL,
It should not break anyhting to include spaces in a file name on Macs or Linux, however you should always avoid this just to be safe. Use a dash or an underscore instead.
Cheers,
Joe

Re: Live cloud maps
Hi Fridger and Christophe, FYI, any shell script that you write which is portable across different linux distros should work without any problem on Mac OS X. The usual /usr, /var, etc/ directories are there. They are just hidden from the Finder (the file browser) becuase they are very few actions yo...
