ATI, Linux, Segfault.. DRI?
See this thread on the Ubuntu forums for more info relating to this.. hoping someone here might have some suggestions. Seems that something that celestia is doing is causing a segfault in the ATI DRI driver. This happens with an older driver version as well as the latest.. maybe I have a conflicting...

isn't it obvious? they are orbiting space cities built by the ancient atlanteans of the pangeac age.

My attempt at a watery Mars...
Just a quick glimpse of a texture I'm working on. It's my first texture, so please bear with me. :) Just 2048x1024 for now. I can create and release a 16k version if there's enough demand. Anyway, comments and critiques are most welcome. http://www.mikeeheler.ca/mike/bluemars-color.jpg Colour Map ht...

Re: Is there an high resolution Jupiter texture ?
I think that's probably the best you're going to find until we get some mapping satellites up there.
Keep us posted if you do find one, though.. always looking for a better Jupiter texture.

Lat / Long Map Distortion
Hi, I'm looking for a software, preferably a gimp 2.0 or photoshop plugin that can take image maps such as the blue marble or the various 2:1 texture maps for planets, and "straighten" out the aspect so that the flat map is not stretched as latitude increases. My goal is to end up with an image wher...

I won't condone piracy, but fortunately Painter 7 was on the required software list for school, so I already have it. I'll try that out, thanks!

Re: Sedna
haul out the "is pluto a planet?" debate cards again.. this one could be the clincher.
how about this for qualification:
1. orbits sun
2. min. radius of 2,000km
3. rocky core? (not sure if this is true for all 4 of the gas giants)
care to expand?![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Best Spec map i've seen...
Yep, definitely a great specular map, although it's only 8k. The biggest difference I find, other than the river detail, is that the ice sheets are speculared (is that a word?
) out. It's the same one that I use in my earth renders as well.

wild. i ask, was there theory behind how the light reflects off of the liquid?
Thanks!
Just wanna give a thanks to everyone here for posting such useful information. This allowed me to understand what components make up a good picture of a planet.. I'm pretty very young in my 3D career, so I thought I'd take up the challenge of seeing if I could make a nice earth render using the Blue...

I like how nasa put together a download for Celestia that included a 32k blue marble and high-res mars.. my textures\hires dir is currently about 2 gigs but yeah, anyone thinking about downloading nasa's blue_vt.zip, here's a preview (so you can see if you like it first.. click for 2kx1k version): h...

Re: Venus maps
it's so slow, though. i've managed to compile high-res textures for the earth, the moon, mars, and the four galilean satellites of jupiter. those i got from john's page, and they're magnificent.. took bloody forever to grab 'em, though. i've stumbled across a higher resolution cloudscape for venus, ...

Re: 1.3.1 almost out, still has many ATI problems...
Interesting. I just upgraded my Catalyst drivers in Windows.. Saturn works fine now, except for with ring shadows on.. turn those on and *boom* slowness to the nth degree. I'll start sending in those bug reports.
Thanks!
