That's rather impossible, if you're using an up-to-date CVS checkout. Make sure you're using automake-1.9.
Make sure you do have a recent checkout. Last week I redid portions of the Makefiles to work with automake-1.9, specifically a problem with ${prefix}.

Re: GTK error
This one's easy!
Make certain you "make install" so that the program can find its data files.
A current project of mine is to re-write the file loader classes so that this will be more obvious.

Re: 3ds models missing when compiling x86-64/kde from source
If someone could track this bug down it would make it easier for the next person. In the mean time - thanks for all you hard work I really apppreciate it. I am the cause of this, see: http://cvs.sf.net/viewcvs.py/celestia/celestia/models/Makefile.am?rev=1.6&view=log But the good news is that it...

Is it really hard to fix ?
I would think it is easy to fix, since it's not present in any of the non-Windows front-ends.
Anyone have 15 minutes to write a patch?

Beauty. I am always impressed by the quality of surface textures we have from places so far away.

Re: Animations in Celestia (edited subject, maybe more replies?)
Okay, so you have an animation in the MNG format. Now what?
Well, you have to read it in and convert it frame by frame into multiple textures that OpenGL will understand. You will lose all advantage of having graphics in this format.
And GIF -- well, if you like 8-bit graphics...

Re: GTK File Chooser filter not working in 1.4.0 (and my fix)
You're welcome a lot. While much of the improvement, IMO, is in the overall look and feel with the new GTK file chooser widgets, etc, I sure won't give GTK all the credit. Copying/Loading URL's from the UI is nice and, finally, at long last, no more menu bar in full screen! My monitor can be a wind...

Re: GTK File Chooser filter not working in 1.4.0 (and my fix)
Outside of this one annoyance, I find that the gtk UI is greatly improved over celestia 1.3.2. Thanks for all the hard work, folks. Thanks a lot. I really mean it. The fix will be in the imminent 1.4.1 release. I can reproduce this bug. I have notified the celestia-gtk developer, Pat Suwalski. Than...

Maybe they work, but not with current Microsoft programs. It tells me it needs to convert to the latest format and then craps out while doing so.

Re: Sound patch
Maybe the "official" developers could just remove the .dsw and .dsp files from the cvs ? I mean, if these files aren't used by the developers anymore, their presence can only cause confusion to newcomers like myself... Hear, hear! This is a good idea. If not that, then to update the workspace files...

you apparently did not read my detailed post above your own ;-) . When making statements about the developer's habits it might have been worth reading ... I read the entire thing before posting. Re: Reverse Engineering Celestia
Don't waste your money. There are no tools for Windows that are anywhere near as good as what you get for free with Linux. Go grab yourself a copy of Ubuntu and grab the Anjuta IDE. Honestly, I spent *hours* fumbling with MSVC before I got Celestia compiling. There's no standard build method! ...may...

Chris made a fix to the ring shadow code today. It might be better in CVS now. We'll have a 1.4.1 maintenance release in the next little while.

Re: Splash screen dir not found (Linux, KDE)
Indeed. But I do that because it's simpler to remove a Celestia installation by just removing a directory tree, and because I have more storage space in /usr/local. By the way, configuring Celestia 1.3.2 with: --prefix=/usr/local/celestia worked fine. I am at a loss. Essentially nothing has changed...
