Stormy Neptune
The recent storms on Neptune inspired me to make this texture
If anything this is a bit conservative.
You may have seen the original images taken over the last few weeks.
it seems that Neptune is an even more interesting planet than I imagined.

Re: Updated stars.dat for Celestria using Gaia data
Fantastic! Now I'm going to have to check all the major stars in Orion's Arm for distance values. Asterope seems a little closer than the rest of the cluster; I suppose that is natural, since we would probably see the stars on this side a little more clearly. There is a non-trivial amount of gas and...

Re: 3D visualisation of pulsars
Flipping between the galaxy view and the pulsar data, you can see where the two agree, and where they diverge. Both the Sagittarius arm and the Perseus arm are a bit closer to us on the pulsar map than on the galaxy map, and there appears to be a whole new arm at around 6 o'clock. Very interesting.

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Very nice work, you two!!! Eburacum, I'm gonna guess that the world on the left of the twin worlds is the closer of the two in this shot, (am I right?) Still a very cool concept, although the tides on such worlds would be fierce beyond measure. Wouldn't the tides stay in the same place, since they'...

Here's a double terrestrial planet in the Orion's Arm Universe

(don't worry - they are much further apart than they look in this image)
and here's the info page for these two planets

Re: Empty focus for Locus
That is another option I intend to explore; thanks! Here's Locus, by the way http://www.orionsarm.com/fm_store/Locus.zip the extremes of hot and cold on this planet would make it uninhabitable by humans, so (as mentioned in the write-up) I've decided to use J Storrs Hall's concept of the 'weather ma...

Re: Empty focus for Locus
Now that the texture is properly aligned, the peculiar characteristics of these system can be clearly seen; the short season of Hotness at Periaston is followed by the longer season of Falling, the long, slow, cold season of Coolness and the increasingly warm season of Rising. As seen from the surfa...

Re: Empty focus for Locus
Thank you very much. I still need to align the texture correctly- the Warm Pole seems to be misaligned by 90 degrees, for some reason- but I feet confident that I can work that out for myself.

Re: Empty focus for Locus
That is more-or-less the method I was thinking of, except how do I define the location of the invisible object?

Empty focus for Locus
Hi! I've got a little request for help; it may or may not be straightforward enough, but I can't quite figure out how to do it. Recently I've created a world for Orion's Arm which is both tidally locked and high;ly eccentric. Among other things this means the planet receives sunlight all over its su...

Re: Algol and other binaries
A year or two ago I made a rough-n-ready model of Algol for Orion's Arm; it includes a transparent, flat billboard between the stars with a hand-drawn texture to simulate matter transfer. This page has an image of the model, although I must admit I smeared the image of orange star in Gimp afterwards...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
The colour on my old Betelgeuse add-on for Orion's Arm was unrealistically red, so I've remade it http://www.orionsarm.com/im_store/med_Betelgeuse.jpg There is a bit of a nebula in place around the star too, representing the considerable mass of ejected material this star is throwing off constantly....

Re: cool new star textures !!!
These look really nice. How does one assign them to the individual star types? I seem to have forgotten the method.
