Re: Update! HD 28185 Photo Album and System Info Project Update!
Never saw this before it popped back up a little while ago, but now that I have, I'm absolutely astounded at the scale and quality of it all. And gratified to hear that one of the planets is my own creation, of course. Which one is it? Offhand, I don't recognize any of the pictures, though it's poss...

Re: Thread Renamed - New Mars Textures
Amazing level of detail. I'm working on an 8k texture map right now, and while it's a pain in the ass, I can't even begin to imagine how time-consuming a 16k would be to create, even if you are dealing with a set layout and lots of existing data. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: USGS Heightmaps?
Ok, problem solved. I simply changed the display method to "height code" and changed the display colors from green, yellow and red to black and white. I'll post something when I get the bump map matched to the color map and rendered in 3ds Max.

Re: USGS Heightmaps?
Thanks a bunch, guys. I've got everything I need now, though I'm having some trouble converting the DEM's to bump maps. The conversion works just fine, but the end result is an image with so little variation that it might as well be an inverted specular map. The land is almost totally white, and I c...

USGS Heightmaps?
I've been browsing around the USGS website in search of some locale-specific heightmaps that I can use in a realistic bump map for a planet texture I'm making, but all I've found are shaded relief maps. Does anyone know where I can find the basic elevation data (preferably in a form I don't need to ...

Re: Making Planet textures with PlanetGen - Clonebrush?
There's one other terrestrial map on my page, Quess. I've actually made several more, but all of them were exclusive contracts with individuals who wanted them for independent films.
As to how I do them, it's all explained in the tutorial on my site, in the Planets section.

They're all mine, and permission is given on the main page of my site. Just go to the Downloads section to get the .zip files.

Update. Next section is (finally) done, so a full third of the texture is complete. http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Halo_04_Profile_A2.jpg http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Halo_04_Profile_B2.jpg http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Halo_04_Profile_C2.jpg http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Halo_04_Profile_D2.jpg ...
Re: Halo WIP
Ah, but it did make the final cut. I got a touched-up (and considerably smaller, grr...) version of that image from the game files, and used it as my starting point. It was used in the escape pod scenes near the beginning of the game, at least on the PC version, that is. If you look at the area abou...
Re: Halo WIP
And I thought the whole site was still dead. Well, shatters.net doesn't work, anyway, and I've been using that to test its status since December. Oh well. At the moment, I'm working on other projects, namely rewriting the planet map tutorial ( http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/html/planet_map_tutorial_...

Re: Galilean Satellites mixed together!!
A. B seems too bright in places for a basic texture without specular highlights, and C is the same way to a much lesser extent. All good, though.
Halo WIP
First off, for those of you who live in a cave, Halo is an XBox/PC game that is named for the ringworld that nearly all of the action takes place on. That said, I'm working on a model of the ring and a set of textures for it. As of now, I've finished about a sixth of it. I'll post updates upon the c...

Re: Help with Texture Seams
If you're using Photoshop, the offset filter (Filter > Other > Offset) will get the seam into the middle of the image where you can work with it.

Hmm. For some reason, the images are all still links to the copies on my computer. And if the red is a problem, I'll just make it darker.

Re: Any Halo Fans Here?
I've been busy for a while. Sorry. However, I'm kind of stuck here, as I have absolutely no idea where my Halo CD is. If I manage to find it, I'll extract the meshes and textures. Wait...here's the model of the Pelican dropship. I saved it with an attempt at modeling the Pillar of Autumn's hangar. I...
