Re: What's your favorite star?

I'd have to say Sol.
Because without it, I would get very cold.

Easy to see, and you can point to it and say "A planet orbits that star."
That'd probably be my second choice.

Re: Supernovae vs. Planets

I am aware of the various difficulties with the Alcubierre drive, but my point was that it is possible to apply math when discussing FTL.
There's also wormholes.

Back to original topic, I think a computer simulation of a supernova hitting the planets would be interesting.

Re: IC 1101

I thought it might be something like that, that the distance isn't known very well. It seems that the Google results say a diameter of 5-6 million lightyears frequently. A blog, answers.com, and Wikipedia say that its diameter is ~5 million ly, yet at the same time say its 1 billion ly away, which i...

Do not mix.
According to Alcubierre they do.

IC 1101

I searched the Internet for largest known galaxy, and its IC 1101.
Wikipedia puts its diameter at 5-6 million lightyears.
In Celestia, its radius is 1.832e+05 ly, which would only be a diameter of 366,400 ly.
It seems that there's a little discrepancy here.
So which is wrong?

Re: Genetica

I have something different. A zip file named gimp-pspi-1.0.7.win32.zip. It has a single file inside, lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\pspi.exe. A quick Google finds me the exact place I got it: http://tml.pp.fi/gimp/pspi.html Another Google (with site:celestiaproject.net/forum) leads me to this: http://www.cel...

Re: Genetica

There's a Gimp plugin that lets you use Photoshop plugins (so you might be able to use Lunarcell in Gimp). I believe it was mentioned here on this site.

And its been sitting in my Download folder for months and I haven't tried it yet.

You have to have the (two) texture packs though.

I've had some nice results... win only.
I've been looking for that, but the links seem to be down. :(

Astrosynth http://www.nbos.com/products/astro/astro.htm (if I need a system where the primary is outside of StarGen's capabilities, like brown dwarfs, stellar masses>1.5, sub-giant stars, you get the idea.) You can't save any systems made on the demo, but there are ways around this... What are thos...

Are you placing each star one by one? That'll take a while. :)

Wings3d is a good free 3D modelling program. It can export in 3DS format, which Celestia can use.

Re: Where's the Globular Cluster Generator?

Yes, But above you were asking for globulars. By default I allowed 8192 stars per globular. This number can be made e.g. 100000, but then you've got to recompile Celestia's source code. Also depending on your computer 100000 stars/globular will slow you down quite a lot.... I'm confused. Celestia e...

Re: Where's the Globular Cluster Generator?

Er... I can define galaxies in Celestia too.
I want to make lots of individual stars for galaxies and clusters.

Where's the Globular Cluster Generator?

I've heard of the Globular Cluster Generator, and I found it here: http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1320 but the links are broken. Is there another place I can get it? Are there any other programs that can generate lots of stars to make clusters and galaxies in Celestia? ...

Re: Double planet with a shared moon

In the image you posted, gravity alone wouldn't allow it to be stable. If they were continuously stablized using some kind of massive futuristic worldmoving superrockets, then they can remain in that configuration. If not stablized, they'd wind up in some other kind of orbits. Celestia can simulate ...

Minor camera bug in 1.5.1 and 1.6.0 when right-clicking

Hi This minor bug wasn't present in version 1.4.1. I start 1.5.1 After arriving at Earth, I right-click on another object, say the Moon or a distant star. In the popup menu, I click on the object's name. The camera instantly jerks when it centers on the object. If I click on the name quickly after o...
