Re: selective labelling

You are absolutely right. It worked after that correction. Thanks.

Reference my original question, is it not possible to turn the labels or orbits on and off selectively? I want so see all the planets going round the sun but only some of them to have labels or orbits shown.

Re: selective labelling

Thanks jogad, this is a fantastically comprehensive reply. It will take me a while to digest it. In the meantime, I put a cel-URL in a script file (test.cel) as follows but it doesn't work. Here is the test file: { seturl {url " cel://SyncOrbit/Sol:Earth:Moon/0010-11-08T10:47:17.42917?x=jEWu+li...

selective labelling

Hi everyone, I want to write a script that creates a view in which the earth and the moon are visible and labeled and also the moon's orbit around the earth is shown. But I do not want to see any other orbits or labels at all -- something like the following: c e l ://Follow/Sol:Earth/2011-02-11T16:5...

rotation and its step size

When I press SHIFT+LEFT Arrow on a planet, the planet turns by a certain amount. If I now press SHIFT+RIGHT Arrow the planet does not come back to the previous angular orientation. This happens even if the time is paused. Any ideas why? Also how can I adjust the step size in the rotation above? Many...

Possible error in scripting manual

I have been reading the excellent scripting manual by Don Goyette. I wonder if there is a little error in the description of GOTO parameter DISTANCE. As I understand it, the DISTANCE parameter of the GOTO command, is measured from the camera to the center of the object. The manual says: Describes ho...

Re: Feature request: Scripts submenu

I know exactly what you mean, Jan. I have been having the same problem which I find frustrating. If only we had the ability to input single commands (to set any of parameters), then this problem would go away. That will give the user an effective tool to fine tune the settings directly (and not via ...

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)

Thanks John. You are quite right -- the last few views and also your Mars view worked fine on my Mac. I am glad that Selden added a note to the start of the post to alert the newcomers like me. I have put in a feature request in an earlier post to convert URLs to a script file (.cel or .celx). It wo...

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)

I have been trying to reproduce some of these views that people have posted to no avail -- apart from the first one (looking up the north pole) by Don. All others produce a dark sky with a few stars. And the time in them is stopped in all of them. Setting to real time or speeding it up make no diffe...

Re: Script generator

Thank you for your detailed reply, Marco. One of the wonderful things about Celestia forums is the presence of so many helpful members and moderators. I didn't know about the use of URLs within .cel files. Thanks you for teaching me that. My original question about converting cel-URLs to normal scri...

Planetarium mode - where am I?

Putting Celestia in planetarium mode (CTRL+G while in Sync Orbit), I wonder where I actually land on The Earth. I can tell by the look of the sky that I am looking north. So to see the southern sky I need to turn the earth upside down. I would be grateful if somebody could confirm this. does anyone ...

Re: looking for horse head nebula

Thanks, I can appreciate the problem now.
Is there a way of setting the magnification / FOV (or indeed other parameters) exactly? I use mouse to change FOV which is very rough and ready.

looking for horse head nebula

Hi everybody,

I would be grateful if you could tell me how I can find my favorite DSO, the horse head nebula, in Celestia.

Many thanks,

Celestia controls

Driving Celestia using keyboard and mouse can be greatly enhanced by the ability to issue single commands. At the moment the only way to do this is by running one-line .cel files, which is not ideal. Also it would be good to be able to step through the commands in .cel files. This way one can fine t...

Add-ons and Mac

Came across Celestia only a couple of weeks ago and could not believe what a wonderful tool it was. I ran the built-in demo and then tried a few examples such as the solar system tour in amazement. However I have so far failed to install a single add-on. When I installed the latest version of Celest...
