Re: Anyone know of Free Web Hosting?
I've prepared this for another forum, so I'll post it as is: Web Developer Resources A list of resources for creating a Web site. All links are for freeware. 1. http://www.weballey.net/ Basics of HTML code. 2. http://www.ornj.net/ This link is for both Web Album Generator and Araneae. These two prog...

This link is dangerous. Curious as I am, I clicked on it, and ended up with a couple of viruses on my computer.

Re: Single-Star method of polar alignment
The answer to my question must have something to do with grids. The available grids on my planetarium program are: galactic, ecliptic, RA/dec, Alt/Az.

Single-Star method of polar alignment
I am trying to develop a polar alignment routine for my GEM telescope. This is a telescope I have to carry in the field, so the drift method is out of the question. The simplest method I have found to date is one first described by Dennis DiCicco. This is the method in summary: This technique was de...

polar alignment
I wonder if anyone on this forum could help me. My scope is a 200mm f/5 GEM reflector. On the west coast of Canada, clear skies suitable for observing are few and far between. I've only been into star gazing for less than a year and am still grappling with polar alignment. All I want to do at this s...

Re: no lunar eclipse in celestia
Last night I was watching the actual lunar eclipse with other members of my astronomy club. At the same time I was showing people the eclipse as shown on Celestia. The moon in the actual eclipse was a haunting shade of reddish-brown. Be nice if someone could incorporate this into the Celestia versio...

script installation
Jon, I have had very limited experience installing scripts. Have successfully installed Solar System Tours by Bob Hegwood and Space Opera by AuReality. I have installed both of these in my Addons directory, with .cel file in main Celestia directory. Is the installation of your scripts done in a simi...

Re: Script to "pause" time
Thanks for the response Harald. After mulling over this, and following up on a suggestion in a private message from Don, I think the best solution to prevent quivering of the labels is to replace the script:
follow {}
with the script:
synchronous {}
follow {}
with the script:
synchronous {}

Script to "pause" time
I would like to include a script in the start.cel file to pause time when Celestia opens. When showing off Celestia I like to zoom in to Sechelt. Unless time is stopped, the location labels are unsteady. This can be fixed by hitting the space bar. I would like to do this automatically by using a scr...

Re: Upgrading from pre11 to final
Selden, After further experimentation, I agree with you that your method is the best. I really keep all of my addons in a completely different directory tree, away from Celestia. Each addon has its own folder within the "holding" directory. I drag individual folders back and forth from the Holding f...

Installation of Celestia 1.3.1
Hi Selden, I had tried your method of upgrading Celestia. Actually you tried to help me in doing this when I first was introduced to Celestia. I guess I never really caught on to this method. For example, the 32k texture Blue Marble I had installed in Extras\Addons. But the instructions for installi...

Installing Celestia 1.3.1
I tried the tips given in this thread to install Celestia 1.3.1 I had tried previously downloading Celestia 1.3.1, then copying all files from Celestia 1.3.1pre11 to Celestia 1.3.1. I was not happy with the result. This time I downloaded Celestia 1.3.1 to its own folder in C: The download named this...

gazetteer
I am having a problem using the gazetteer. I wonder if anyone could help me out. I have replaced earth-UNECE.ssc (which worked properly) with this gazetteer. In Celestia, if I select Sechelt, Sechelt appears top left corner of Celestia. If I press G (for GOTO), then Earth swings around so that Seche...
