Re: Help Star Gone Wrong !!
It's correct, except for the star number. The HIP star numbers in the default database go up to 118322, so your star number has to be bigger than that or you'll conflict with an existing star. Hip 101000 is actually HD 346672, a B9 star located at 20 28 37, +22 01 54. It'd probably also be a good id...

Re: Using Spice-data / How can i do that in an easy way?
I believe you are correct that a BSP file containing the trajectory of only one object can't work with Celestia. It needs to contain a second trajectory that can be used as the "Origin". Actually an orbit with only one trajectory works just fine, if the coordinate origin used in the kernel is the s...

Re: Does Celestia have game potenial
And, of course, if you want a spaceflight "game" with realistic Newtonian physics, there's always Orbiter. Independence War was a commercial game that used Newtonian physics, and once you got used to it it was a lot of fun. People just have to want to put out the effort to get their minds around ho...

Re: Celestia in planetarium domes?
FYI, it is pretty trivial to project the image from a crt onto a flat screen or wall. All you need is the fresnel lens out of a dead overhead projector, and some cardboard to make a light box for between the screen and lens.

RS is the abbreviation for the Indian Rupee. In USD, he's got a 'Buy It Now' price of 79 cents, and a shipping charge of $1.36.

Re: An error in extrasolar.stc
I'm guessing that the star is too far away (12400 ly) to be detected optically, forcing us to invent a plausible magnitude. I could modify Celestia to automatically compute the brightness from the radius and temperature when a magnitude isn't specified, but PSR 1620-26B seems like a pretty rare cas...

Re: DE414 ephemeris + (Celestia 1.5.0)
Tx for the effort; 1950-2050 seems fine but is there any chance to have another coverage for the next hundred years? (separate file) Some obejcts have longer timespans available, but it's limited by the range of the calculated JPL ephemeris data. My current version includes the full timespan for ea...

Re: DE414 ephemeris + (Celestia 1.5.0)
Some suggestions: Since they have no moons, Mercury and Venus barycenter ephemerides should be identical to their planet-centered ephemerides, so it shouldn't hurt to leave out the planet-centered ones. Mars barycenter and panet-center should be almost identical: it's not as if Phobos and Deimos ha...

I'm just amused that he was trying to make a quick buck off of selling Celestia under another name, and he hadn't even registered an account here.

DE414 ephemeris + (Celestia 1.5.0)
I've been working lately on creating a 'composite' of the DE414 and other recent ephemerides for use with Celestia 1.5.0, as a (very large) add-on replacement for the current VSOP87 model that Celestia uses by default. DE414 is JPL's latest planetary ephemeris, and is considerably more accurate than...

Re: The zOMFG! Look at those Awsome Frames Per Second! tut
Ah, this will have no value to Celestia as Celestia doesn't use Direct X for its 3D API. It uses OpenGL so anything you do to tweak Direct X nothing foe adding frames to Celestia. While they talk about using a 'tweaker' program to make DirectX support triple buffering, OpenGL already supports it, s...

This is happening in Brazil, too.A major magazine homepage called Americanas.com is selling with the name "Universo com Celestia" for about 30 reais, the equivalente of 15 dollars.I had warned before, but no one realized. Look at it.(Sorry for being in Portuguese): http://www.americanas.com.br/prod/25...

The person listed in WHOIS is /legally/ the owner of the website, and thus is /legally/ responsible for it's content. If someone else created the domain and website, and listed him in WHOIS, then he now owns it and can take it down. BTW, the posting of WHOIS info for objectionable websites has been ...

Re: Celestia Development on a game engine
Just as a note, it would be entirely possible for the Celestia dev team to release the Celestia source under a second license (non-GPL) for the use of people who wanted to include it in another non-GPL product. Not that I see that as likely, though, but I though I'd point it out. Doing so would in ...

Not that it isn't irritating, but without buying a copy of their program and looking at it, you can't really tell if they are violating the GPL or not. 1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program's source code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that you conspicuously and ap...
