Re: Bugs in 1.6.0

I have downloaded 1.6.0 from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/celestia/files/Celestia-win32-bin/celestia-win32-1.6.0.exe/download I quite like the green squares and circles, but there seems to be a different problem. In Windows XP Celestia displays a persistent red line, which appears to be the ...

Re: What about a texture I'm making?

That is a very nice texture. You can see that this texture is derived from the continents and oceans of Earth; a very interesting concept. One change that would make this map slightly better would be if the shallow waters had a slightly lighter blue colour. Looking at the map of Earth, quite large r...

Re: Planets bigger than their stars

That artist's impression is very similar to the sort of quality you can get using Celestia nowadays. With a bit of post processing and the use of large enough textures I think it would be fairly easy to make an image like that.

I've got loads, but I've only recently have found a way to upload them to the new Orion's Arm site. Here's another one Starlifting at Polaris http://www.orionsarm.com/fm_store/Polarisstarlifting.zip ------------------- We haven't written very much about starlifting on the site yet http://www.orionsa...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Here's another cylinder, with a large parabolic mirror this time, which I've split up into separate sections, so that the centre of gravity is nearer the axis. Both lenses and mirrors can be flattened by dividing them up into concentric rings in this way. http://www.orionsarm.com/im_store/med_CYLIND...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

I've been trying to figure out the best way to collect sunlight with mirrors for use in a deep space habitat. One way is to use a 45 degree mirror as used in the Stanford Torus design, focus the incoming light using a parabolic reflector onto a, much smaller curved mirror which finally focuses the l...

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!

Yours has fewer objects than mine, but looks like it might collect more starlight. Bob Jenkin's idea is to put a second, larger swarm outside the first at right angles; this would collect some of the energy the first one misses. But I can't quite get my head round how to change the angle of this tor...

There is a topic about this subject here; http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13209&p=110267&hilit=fomalhaut#p110267 I must admit that the image I created in that thread was mostly acheived using post-processing with Gimp; but I did manage to make a relatively accept...

A Dyson Swarm made using orbiting objects (solar power collectors) in a series of inclined, eccentric orbits. This kind of swarm was suggested by Bob Jenkins http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8904/jenkinsdysonswarm.jpg there are 26000+ objects in this image; the swarm could be made much thicker (by...

Blakes 7 reminds me of when I first set up home with my wife; we had a washing mashine called a 'Liberator Twin Tub'

The Liberator

Doing the laundry was the closest I could get to a trip into space in those pre-Celestia days...

A short string of semi-transparent spiky objects all rotating rapidly at different angles would look pretty good, in my opinion.

By coincidence, the main gas giant in the Tau Ceti system in the Orion's Arm scenario is called Zeus too.

If you want the flare effect in images taken from Celestia you can add it afterwards using the 'sparkle' effect in Gimp. (a free program).

Re: How to create a cloud map/texture?

The cloud maps made from the Xplanet data seem very good to me; are you asking how to vary their appearance? I use Gimp to make some changes - you can make them hazy, more transparent, copy and move bits of the map around, erase bits; I often make parts of the cloud map completely transparent, or ad...
