Mistaken orbital periods?
I think there's a mistake in this file: the new Saturn moons are orbiting much slower than their neighbours: cel://Follow/Sol:Saturn/2005-03-28T04:35:27.11889?x=AAD8XBLKKy2QDA&y=CuAS+ZA0gp8y&z=R8viUifO/ahn/////////w&ow=0.541055&ox=0.761440&oy=-0.354164&oz=-0.045135&track=...

Re: [Fictional] 2 new worlds
There's a song called 'Paint me a Birmingham'?! Hahahahaha!! I'm just imagining someone singing it in a Brummie accent: "Piynt me a BUR-ming-um'.
Sorry, no disrespect to Birmingham, Alabama, I'm sure it's lovely.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: [Fictional] 2 new worlds
Great texture but ... why call it Birmingham of all things?!?!
Sorry, but I used to live in Birmingham (UK) and I don't think such a beautiful planet deserves to be named after a grimy industrial hellhole!![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Check out the CICLOPS pages, they have some hastily processed images.
Look at this one in particular!! Holy...
It looks like frozen icing on a cake...

Re: Occultation of Tethys by Enceladus
There's a long article on the Planetary Society website about the Enceladus encounter. http://www.planetary.org/news/2005/cassini_titan03_plan_0211.html It seems that after the Titan encounter the exact orbit of Cassini will be uncertain owing to the drag of Titan's atmosphere. Because of this, the ...

Re: Occultation of Tethys by Enceladus
It's encouraging that both simulators show this.
The occulation is an aesthetically pleasing effect but I wonder if there would be any scientific value in photographing it?

Occultation of Tethys by Enceladus
I was using Celestia to see what will be visible during Cassini's upcoming flyby of Titan and Enceladus, and I noticed an interesting effect: there will be a moment when Enceladus will pass directly in front of Tethys, as seen from Cassini. See the following CEL (I'm using Celestia 1.4pre6 and Jestr...

Re: Doing an experiment Rho1 Cnc e
I believe it's by Don Edwards but is no longer on his site. However, I picked it up from one of Frank's educational addons (the one with the Red Giant Earth), so that's where you should look to confirm its authorship.

Re: CELESTIA!
Just wanted to assure Celestians that as a computer illiterate person without a degree in astronomy I never had any trouble figuring out how to use Celestia when I was a newbie. The gentleman who began this thread is unlikely to be representative of the average newcomer. Furthermore, when things did...

Name everything!!
Everything should be named. Just a few decades ago people might have questioned the worth of giving names to worlds like Enceladus, Miranda, Triton and, dare I say it, Ganymede. What's the point, they'd say, they're just boring spheres of ice, why try to give them a personality? But it turns out the...

Names of new Saturn moons
Solar system completists may like to know, if you haven't noticed already, that two of the new moons of Saturn discovered by Cassini have been given official names: 2004S1 is now Methone and 2004S2 is now Pallene. The names won't be officially confirmed until 2006. A few months ago, Jeam Tag posted ...

Re: Huygens!
The images from the Arizona website are very smoggy and most are just blur, but there are a couple of cool ones; some nice perspective shots of low mountainous landscapes, and some foggy but interesting shots of the drainage channels.

OK... I don't want to leap to conclusions ... and I know nothing about geology... but the pale stuff is craggy and mountainous and the black stuff is smooth ... so we're looking at a seashore, right? ![Shocked 8O](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
