GIMP Question
I'm sure if this is in the wrong place, the moderators, in their wisdom, shall move it... I use Wilbur ALOT for my textures. One of its most outstanding features is the ability to make textures from black and white images. What I've been doing is making such textures and then transfering to Wilbur. ...

When I first joined, it was primarily to get some feedback on work I was doing. I have since come to appreciate your input and the insights many of you have shared...plus, your individual personalities shine through in each post. The triumvirate of mousse, wieczor, and niem-whatever seem to be the w...

Re: Non-ML hosting of multiple large addons?
That would seem fair to me. There was much that had been done in my first add-on in ignorance. While it got justifiably panned, I still didn't know how to do some of the things that were supposed to be corrected...a problem I've since rectified. However, I'm reluctant to release anything for fear of...

Re: Star Trek in Celestia
While the amount of work your producing is a lot, is it really necessary to throw out taunting commentary? You're demanding everyone respect your work but you're equally unwilling to accord respect to anyone's opinions and reasonable critiques. I think one reason for the number of views on this topi...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Very nice work, you two!!! Eburacum, I'm gonna guess that the world on the left of the twin worlds is the closer of the two in this shot, (am I right?) Still a very cool concept, although the tides on such worlds would be fierce beyond measure. This world was created, using, of all things, a paperwe...

Re: Cloud Map Generator
I looked at Fragmentarium...is it a command line type renderer? While the results of such things are very nice, I prefer to see what I'm doing while I'm working on it. (If that makes any sense to anyone, great.)

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
I wish there was a way to put the AstroSynth output into an .ssc format, it could make life a little easier on the addon front. (Yes, I admit it. I'm a horribly lazy person at times.) Here's a real-world planet with a hypothesized moon...HD 221287 has a planet in the HZD, about 3 times Jupiter's mas...

Re: Cloud Map Generator
I hadn't really considered a fractal generator, aside from what's in GIMP. I'll have to try it (and the other suggestions as well.) Thanks for all your help!

Cloud Map Generator
Does anyone know of a really good cloud map generator? I mean the kind where you can input the amount of cloud coverage and possibly manipulate the appearance? I had LunarCell, but I was never completly happy with the look. AstroSynth's clouds look, well, less than bad. I haven't really found any sa...

Re: Fictional planetary maps
Wilbur is pretty simple to use...a lot of what I've done has just been plain old experimentation. Of course, I've followed a couple of the tutorials, but the one I found most valuable was this one: http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/FunWithWilburVol4/index.html I've made a few B&Ws in GIMP, then ...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Very nice, PE! Which version of AstroSynth did you use? (I'm still using the demo version of AstroSynth 2.0) I used it to create the Tegmine system, actually. (However, I did have to do some editing.) A long time ago, I made a planetary system which I put around Theta Persei A. Here is a shot of the...

Re: What is your opinion on the use of Celestia for Sci-Fi?
I believe the two can coexist peacefully. About 20 years ago, extrasolar planets were almost all theoretical. True, there were very good hunches, but nothing concrete. So, technically, any planets rendered in scientific literature could be considered "fiction" (although I remember seeing t...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
I don't have a lot out there...just the first Tegmine addon. I'm a very slow worker, so it might take me some time to get something together. But I'll try and get some of them out there....(of course, I'm worried JVV will pan it and it never gets posted... ) But thanks very much for the compl...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Very nice work, PE. Having a penchant for Earth-like worlds, here's one I recently did...(Credits: Selden's modified StarGen, Wilbur, GIMP and a gradient editor by somebody...) There are few highlands on this world. Heavy rains produce extensive silting, but it could also be a form of algae not yet ...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Very nice work, P.E.!
Last shot for now...This is one of Srira Viti, its parent planet Cotralege Mu (thank you AstroSynth name generator for such wierdness) and just over the limb, Tegmine C,D and E (D and E are so close they look like 1.)
I'll try and present some new material soon...

Re: Custom Science-Fiction Pictures from Celestia
Thank you. I've been slowly reworking the Tegmine A system, hopefully for a re-release. The first version got panned, and in retrospect, deservedly so. There's a super-earth in the system that needs help, plus the other moons could use original textures as well. Here's one I made with a color-invert...

My, my...I'm gone for a bit and things get a little nasty! On the other hand, I'm flattered you like at least some of my work, Massimo. Thank you for bringing Wilbur to my attention. Here's another view of a world called Srira Viti, which orbits the third planet of Tegmine A...
