Re: Jupiter animated map
I agree it's not scientific, but it's very nice! I'd like to see it in motion. Can it be downloaded?

Frank, does this mean you'll be updating your educational activities with the new sun texture?

I'd be very happy to volunteer to help administer the boards. This is the same bb software I use on another forum that I run, so I'm very familiar with how to administer it.

Just installed v 1.4.0 pre 6
...and when I go to the Help menu and select About Celestia, it says this is version 1.3.2. Is something wrong with my download? The .exe that I downloaded says 1.4.0. ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

Huh? Forgive my ignorance (for it is vast!), but are you suggesting that the Milky Way has two arms? How would we know that?

This board uses the same phpbb software that I use on another board that I own. On my other board, I allow guests to read, but not to post. I think shatters should turn off guest posting.

IBEX Explorer
I just read the news today about NASA selecting the IBEX explorer to take images of the outer boundary of the solar system. Does anyone know the velocity this spacecraft will achieve and how long it will take for it to reach the outer boundary? I'm hoping I'll still be alive to learn of its findings!!

Re: hires, medres, and lores
You control which is shown by typing "r" (show textures in the next lower resolution folder) or "R" (show textures in the next higher resolution folder). Thanks very much, Selden. So can I assume that if I mistakenly placed a texture for a planet in the hires folder, with no corresponding textures ...

hires, medres, and lores
I understand that the hires, medres, and lores subfolders in the textures folder contain Hi, Medium, and Low resolution textures respectively. But, how does Celestia use the files in these three folders? Does the program go to the lores folder when you're viewing position is beyond a certain distanc...

How do you capture an animation in Celestia (v 1.3.2) to use in another program? What format is captured? Thanks.

Is this graphics card a good one to use with Celestia?
I'm looking at the GeForce FX5200XT AGP 8X graphics card with 128MB DDR video memory running on Windows XP Media Center Edition. Is this a good card for Celestia or should I go for a higher-end card? Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Thanks!
