Re: I'll be BACK - again!
All that "crap" isn't from Vista. It's from HP. You'd get the same thing with XP installed by HP, or any other company (dell, etc.). Yet another reason to build your own machine. That, and you'd actually be able to intall XP, or even Linux if you so chose. This Viiv thing sounds like a bunch of crap...

Re: Advanced lighting?
DW, This is looking pretty good and I too am looking forward to this feature as an option. Just one minor critique...in the shots provided by ElChristou, the glow extends into space a small distance from the spacecraft. IMO, to be totally realistic - unless there was some outgassing of fluids from ...

Re: I'll be BACK - again!
My advice is to build your PC from individual parts bought off the internet (newegg). It will almost always be cheaper, and you know what kind of quality is inside it, because you built it. And you can make it look badass if you choose to. ;) Like this... http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/7992/pb28...

Re: Celestia 1.5.0 prerelease 4
Just a quick clarification of Fridger's F-TexTools results: My 1.33GHz mac powerbook performed quite similarly to a 1.6GHz Celeron (P3 I think). For example, one of the tests which took 40 minutes on my machine would also take almost 40 mins on the Celeron. This doesn't explain why a 3.2GHz which i...

i can't find it under anyone of this names :-( http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7505/hip35793ii5.th.png You have to type out the whole name, but it's there. Note that it's nowhere near as big in Celestia as the wiki article claims it to be. Its radius is "only" about .4 AU.

Just install Celestia to a different directory. C:Program Files\Celestia2, or something like that.

Re: Zooming on an exoplanet not possible?
Zooming to very high values (small angles) makes Celestia to slow down to a crawl. I cannot confirm this in Windows. Zooming in to max maintains 60fps. I wanted to watch the travel of an exoplanet in front of it's star, but apparently I'm unable to zoom enough for this. What's up? We can zoom on th...

Re: UPDATE!! - Ultimate Terraformed Mars Texture
Hey Don, I KNOW I'm a pain in the butt, but do you have any REALISTIC Mars plans? Or, maybe I have just missed the location of something you've already done? I know that Mars is pretty well rendered by current versions, but with YOUR expertise, I'd just LOVE to see a REAL mars from you. Your Earth ...

Re: Who's been watching the lunar eclipse?
I live near St. Louis, in IL. I got up at 4:30 AM CST to see it. By the time I got outside it was already about 80% darkened pretty neat to see it. And then when it reached totality, it got fairly dark, with only a little bit of color to it. It was still really fancy to watch though. I tried filming...

I've actually ran Celestia on my SDTV (which is always hooked up to and activated on my computer), but somehow 640x480 is much less impressive. lol ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: 1.5.0pre3 bugs
I may have possibly found a bug in pre3. When using the eclipse finder option, I'm unable to choose a solar or lunar eclipse from the dropdown. It looks like this: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/126/eclipsefindererrorgp2.jpg Changing the list of planets dropdown to a different planet has no effe...

Neat little comparison, Cham; very informative. I really like the glowy effect when all the stars start to merge together. That's kinda like how a single star should look, maybe.

All of my results (and corresponding question marks) are from the 1.5.0pre3 .exe installer thingy. I haven't touched CVS.
