Re: Motherlode Peer Group Review

This is McWgog's 256-byte Mimas Bump Map and 512-byte Mimas surface texture. Do we really need to keep these add-ons around when much better, and higher-resolution images are available by the boatload? Comments? One could argue that since (unless I'm very blind) this seems to be the only bumpmap pf...

You mean something like this?

Pretty neat screenshot, actually.

Edit: As Selden described while I was making the screenshot.
Edit again: 1920x1080 yummy goodness. :)

Any plans anytime soon to consider this atmosphere light scattering to brighten the surface?

Re: "Timing" of nighttime lights.

Incorrect. That screenshot was taken using OpenGL 2.0. Plus, even in your screenshots, the nighttime lights are showing up in the daylight.

"Timing" of nighttime lights.

I'm not sure if this is really a "bug", but it sure has been bugging me. http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/9928/nightlightsdf2.th.jpg This is a picture of North America as it is right now as I type, 2:15ish PM CST. As you can see, a large portion of the US has the nighttime texture partially on, so...

Correct. super pixelated = blocking effects. And the 7900GT is a G71 chip and the 6200 is a NV44 chip I believe.

Re: Dynamic Cloud Shadows

Thanks to Fridger's .exe, I have verified that both my 7900GT and my 6200 have the same super pixelated cloud shadows. I wish I could have compiled from code myself, but I had a hell of a time with the environment variables when trying to build it. Oh well. Maybe I'll get around to figuring it out s...

Re: Dynamic Cloud Shadows

OK. I have the SDK installed. I have Visual Studio 2005 Express C++ installed. Following the directions at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/Development/Win32_platform/Tortoise_CVS I have TortoiseCVS installed. But when I try to checkout the sourcecode, I get the following error: connect to cvs....

Re: Dynamic Cloud Shadows

Johaen, It's documented in the Celestia WikiBook. See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/Development/Win32_platform I am aware of this. ;) I was already there and that's how I got to where I'm at. I already DLed the SDK, but the link to Visual Studio 2005 Express C++ only leads to the 2008 editi...

Re: Dynamic Cloud Shadows

I'd love to test it on both the 7900GT and the 6200 I have installed on my machine, but I am unable to build from the source. I've been doing some research on how to do so. I've been unable to find a place to download Visual Studio 2005 Express C++.

Re: 3DMars update

I've tried it out using Don's 4k Mars DDS texture. It's interesting, but not detailed enough to be worth it, in my opinion. I did notice something odd happening though. Whenever I use any render path other than OpenGL 2.0, it works just fine. But when I switch to OpenGL 2.0, the entire planet disapp...

Re: 3DMars update

Unlike 3dmars-ver6 at my web site, this model is simple and uses only 1 texture which is whatever mars texture you have called mars.*. It has the same amount of triangles though. So I downloaded the 8k shaded version by Praesepe at the ML and renamed it to mars.dds. The texture you use is limited b...

Bug in star "atmospheres". 1.5.0pre5

There are black spots in the atmospheres of stars when viewed at a certain distance. When you get closer, the black spots disappear. When you get further away, the atmosphere disappears. http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7067/starblackspotseu4.th.jpg It appears in all render paths. Changing the FOV...

Bob, I'm not sure how complex you are wanting, but I just created this quick little example: http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3025/trancparancytestig9.th.png (Make sure to click it to actually see the gradient. For some reason the thumbnail doesn't seem to be showing the transparency.) What I did:...

I've only cried while listening to music once, and it was while watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzoubJEO-nU I actually just started watching it again and almost started to cry again. I had to stop watching it, lol. I really don't know why it does this to me. I don't think it's th...

I just bought a Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p LCD, and I thought I'd try out Celestia on it. I'm amazed at the detail you can see. All images rendered at 1920x1080.
