Re: opinions on planet addon
The green side looks VERY nice. Is that ring of water based on the famous relic impact crater that's in Canada somewhere? Manicouagan, that was it: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/misr/misr_images/lake_manicouagan.jpg (from http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/misr/misr_html/lake_manicouagan.html )...

Re: Time is a spiral vortex
I think he's just referring to the precession of planetary orbits around the sun - which I think Celestia already handles anyway, doesn't it?

The link at the bottom points to a prerelease version of 1.3.2.
It does say that he works for NVIDIA though.

BTW, I should add that I really do like that landscape view. Hope you get those dodgy bright normals fixed! ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Preview: On Titan
I don't think it's really worth doing a recreation of the surface photo, it's far too much detail and it's going to be very slow work to get everything in the right place (unless you have some means to reproject the surface photo image to a plan view, like the Mars lander imaging team does with thei...

Re: Sombrero Galaxy, through Spitzer
Oh Evil One, The fuzzy spherical glow that extends above and below the ring consists of the billions of stars that are in the main ellipsoidal body of the galaxy. All stars glow in the infrared, just some glow more brightly than others. As a result, yes, someone living on a planet orbiting a star n...

So, are you going to try to match up the rocks in the lander's surface image to the terrain model in your first picture here? ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: Sombrero Galaxy, through Spitzer
There's still that fuzzy glow above and below around the disk in the pure IR image though (see Fridger's link, bottom right corner). Is that really there (ie some kind of glowing gas or dust?) or is that an imaging artifact? Further to Dollan's question: if it's really there, would someone in the di...

Re: Sombrero Galaxy, through Spitzer
I should add that this image is actually a merged visible light and IR image. In case you were wondering

OK, so a lot of it seems to be down to reflection of the sky... but does anyone actually know what wavelengths non-H2O liquids absorb?

Re: Titan's upper atmosphere: blue or not blue?
This is a very nice shot. Have you made some change in your ssc to match this photo? NO! This is real imaging from Cassini. Before I shall try to incorporate the blue shade into Celestia, I want to be convinced that this is not due to some UV enhancement, as was claimed earlier. From the link you p...

Blue skies, blue seas: sky and ocean colours?
I was wondering about whether oceans of different liquids would look blue or not. I know that our own water oceans were blue in part because they absorb longer (red) wavelengths of light and let the shorter (blue) ones through a larger distance. But I had a look around for more info on the web, and ...

Re: The Solar System is all mine!
Yeah, that brown square does stand out somewhat. I suppose one could argue that it's a fault-bounded lowland area that has been filled with dark material, and it just happens that the faults are all orthogonal to eachother ;). But that's a very unlikely configuration, you wouldn't really get a recta...

Re: Invisible ( Dark -matter) Galaxy discovered (VIRGOHI21)!
That's just utterly bizarre. That there is absolutely no visible trace of ANYTHING there at all is really weird (and cool :)). So it's a big cloud of neutral hydrogen - no stars at all (so nothing illuminating it)? And presumably being neutral hydrogen there's no dust in it either to make it visible...

... I gave pluto and charon more "realistic" textures, ... That's a joke, is'nt it? My (default) Pluto texture includes the most realistic knowledge of mankind about Pluto and Charon. There are simply no better imaging data about these bodies. Bye Fridger You'll note he put "realistic" in quotes - ...

Hey, if anyone is interested, visit my site. I've been working on some fun anatomical sketches of the life on Darwin IV, based of of the show. You do know the program is based on an art book, right? You should check out that link that Dollan posted below your first post. There are some very detaile...

Re: Is it time to fork Celestia?
Does StarStrider use Celestia code? It looks similar but it is hard to tell if they use Celestia code and brake the GPL. It looks like they are in just one thing better then Celestia, anaglyph 3D output! Don't think it does - it's just parallel development producing things that look a bit similar I...
