Re: Just one more comment please!
Gosh, this topic was so popular not even locking it could stop it! I had noticed that a few people were suggesting that Terrorbyte was a troll (not that he neccessarily is), but the funny thing is, if you encounter a troll on the internet, it is best not to reply to them because what they want is t...

Re: Just one more comment please!
Actually, I'm fairly appalled at the way Terrorbyte was treated on that thread. My contribution to it was only to say that he hadn't exactly provided much in the way of specific complaints, but there were quite a few people there who were lobbing petty insults and smarmy comments around who should d...

Re: Owwww!!
I guess that I've thrown a rock into the Cellestia Hive!! Well, you just made lots of sweeping generalisations without actually specifying examples of the problems you had. What do you expect in return, exactly? The threads that you have started asking questions on seem to have been addressed. Addo...

Re: Winstars 2
And what about the "registering". I mean, WinStars2 is SHAREWARE. So it means that you don't get full package either you forced to use illegal serial, and that is stealing... It costs 7 euros to register Winstars2 - it's hardly expensive, and most people could quite easily afford to pay that if the...

Re: Questions on some settings in the "solarsys.ssc" f
The stats for the equatorial and polar radii for Earth (from the NSSDC Planetary Data sheets ) are: Equatorial radius (km) 6378.1 Polar radius (km) 6356.8 So it probably doesn't really make that much difference in practise if you comment out oblateness, if you don't mind that Celestia isn't 100% rea...

Re: URGENT: Regarding 'Porn Bus'...
I dunno if you can write to the documentary makers and ask for a copy (dunno if you want it in english or german though)... I did that with another documentary that they showed on CBC Newsworld and they put me in touch with the director who gladly sent a copy of it on VHS (had to pay for it, but the...

Re: URGENT: Regarding 'Porn Bus'...
By the way, you might be the very man to know: Last autumn, there was a 'documentary' on NDR about how the USG and the CIA co-opted Stanley Kubrick to direct the 'Moon hoax landing'. I know the Apollo landings were not hoaxed. However, the programme is from the point of view the landings were hoaxe...

Re: LPSC abstracts are online
What boggled me was that we used to have the conference within NASA grounds. Then 9/11 happened, and the conference was moved to a hotel complex outside NASA for "security concerns". I guess from one perspective they have a point - it is a government facility after all, and we are effectively "gener...

Re: LPSC abstracts are online
Nope... I did go when I was doing my PhD, but now my travel budget is nonexistent and besides I don't really want to cross the US border anymore (I have no desire to be photo'd and fingerprinted and that data sent to an agency that I don't trust, who won't tell me what they're going to do with that ...

We can only appeal to Admin/Moderator(s) in a reasonable manner to do what they can. I suspect selden is wondering about the escalation of workload as moderator. He only volunteered, and is not obliged... I'm not even certain he volunteered for the job, from what he's told me in the past. But only ...

Re: Suggestion: require registration to post
Was that message with the boxes another porn spam? I nearly clicked on the post thread but then I thought against it because the possibility of it being another spam message crossed my mind. At first I was thinking that the thread title may have been trying to describe a weird bug in Celestia. :rol...

Re: Suggestion: require registration to post
You all realize, of course, that spammers can register, and though it isn't common, they *do* register just to send out their links. Yes, but if they register it's a lot easier to block them because you can ban the IDs and IP addresses more easily. And really, how much spam has hit this place since...

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download
Don't forget that an Addon can contain a 3D model that's placed relative to the surface of object. Then the height in a Location can be relevant. For example, someone might consider creating a 3D model of one or more of the mountains that have telescopes on them. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I was...
