Re: How do you create spacecraft meshes
3D Max has one of the largest user bases in the world. I believe it is because its roots are in AutoCad. I model in Lightwave personally. There are a number of free modeling programs Anim8or (this has been mentioned before), Google SketchUp 6 (made for buildings but could be used for spacecraft) and...

I was over a the library and reading Science magazine I found this site http://www.wikisky.org/ mind you I don't think it is as cool as Celestia it still is an interesting site. Read the Getting Started first to learn the controls. I will see if the owners would like to link or tie into Celestia. En...

Re: movie size in the capture tool
Just to through my 2 cents into all of this. The visual difference between 720 and 1080 is hardly noticable. Note I said visual. What makes the biggest difference is if it is interlaced or progressive scanned. I am assuming that the capture would be progressive since that is what the computer monito...

Re: The atmosphere acts like a prism?
I remember seeing a photo back when the space program was going. It showed the sun setting from space just a you describe and yes there was a prism effect. Now I would venture to guess that this does not happen every time because the refraction of the light is caused by water vapor so the effect wou...

Did you see what he charges to ship a CD! That should be the charge for a stack of 25 or 50 CD's blanks. This is a total rip-off
IMO. Like the saying goes buyer beware.

Hubble Site for viewing images
Not sure if you guys are aware of the site http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/index/0/ I shows some interesting images that Hubble is seeing. The neat part I liked was the zoom able image function. Click on "Carina Nebula" link the first one then click Zoom icon below the image. This ...

Re: Hi, I'm new here. Questions
It's kind of addictive if your not careful. I need to run with the program every couple of days or so but I have heard some can't go thru a day with out it. These are just rumors mind you. Try it you may see what I mean.

Re: Interesting Web site
As far as I know they are affiliated with "Starry Night" which could be regarded as a commercial alternative for Celestia. For that reason I don't suspect they will give a lot of attention to Celestia. Still a pretty nice site though, thanks for posting the link :) Ya, I gather that. I sent them an...

Interesting Web site
I found a site. Some may know about it. It is called http://www.space.com/ It is pretty large and commercial but still has a lot of interesting info. This link within Space.com http://www.space.com/php/video/ has a number of videos on all kinds of subjects. These are not some little 30 second clips....

Cassini Saturn's RingPlane
All: Thought I would share. Got an email from Ciclops about the spacecraft Cassini as it passed Saturn's ring plane. Here is the link to Ciclops http://ciclops.org/view.php?id=2527 . I captured an animation using Celestia with Cassini and Saturn in the same view. I have posted at CGTalk in my portfo...

Re: User generated spacecraft trajectory display
Not sure were it is in the manual but I believe you can have a date/time start and stop for the launch and orbit. Then you just run the time at whatever you wish Keys (j, k and l) and watch the trajectory evolve over time. I noticed this on the Cassini craft. Ifs you roll back the time to the beginn...

Re: Up-to-date images of Saturn moons imaged from Cassini
Well well. I am really glad that you all enjoy the find of moon images. I also you like you to note the other items on that page. It is a good source of new discovers over the past year on the project. I am going to email them a note about how helpful this site was and how we a Celestia have use the...

Up-to-date images of Saturn moons imaged from Cassini
At the bottom of this LINK http://ciclops.org/view_event.php?id=58 are image maps of several moons of Saturn that were created this last year. I think all you need to do is save them rename them and copy them into you texture folder.

Cassini link to images and anim for 2006
Here is a Cassini site http://ciclops.org/view_event.php?id=58 featuring a bunch of images and short movies what Cassini imaged this last year. Very cool and informative. Some of these I have seen on " Astronomy Picture of the Day" http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ . At the bottom are up-to-date map...

Re: New user with a Q about Educational versions?
Welcome aboard! 8^) I cannot answer you question about the joystick. Never used it. I would suggest you download the pdf manual and learn as many of the keyboard shortcuts as you can. A few a day will do. I have found that is the best way to get the most out of navigating/displaying what you want to...

Re: Is Internet Explorer 7 compatible with Celestia?
I have been using IE for years. As far as I know it has no conflict with Celestia. When a CEL is double clicked IE opens a blank window with the CEL in the URL. Celestia then starts up if it is not running and goes to the location specified by the CEL. However I just switched over to FireFox and hav...

Re: Problem with Xorg service
As others have stated it would not hurt to update the video card drivers. Hope that does the trick. BTW Celestia is a single processor program and tends to be a hog on the CPU.
