Re: MARS NORMALMAPDXT3

Steve,

Selden's right about some Addons being a disorganized mess. If it helps here's a Windows Explorer screen capture of my directory structure for this Addon:

Re: Weird comet tails in 1.3.2 final

The problem is that when a comet is rendered, the clip plane is set too far from the camera position, and so it truncates the comet tail. It doesn't have anything to do with 24-bit z buffers or two-sided objects. I'm not yet sure how I'll fix this. I'm unsatisfied with the rendering of comet tails ...

Re: 1.3.2 to make cel urls in Win98/ME ?

Might Win98/ME users get the ability to make celurls in the forthcoming 1.3.2 ? Nope, still not fixed. My understanding is this is an issue with the OS, not Celestia. Instead of relying on a keyboard shortcut, is it possible in a future release to have an additional command to the File menu, say "C...

Re: Weird comet tails in 1.3.2 final

I have the same issue on both my work and home computers which use different graphics cards.

Work: GeForce FX 5900 (128 MB)

Re: New 64k DDS Earth texture

Very nice work on the 64K Earth Jestr! Now it's stupid question time. The graphics card on my system at home (ATI Radeon 7000) doesn't support specular reflections so I noticed right away that your ocean textures show the oceanic ridges, trenches, etc. Was this done on purpose? Just curious, it does...

Re: Need HELP for jpg conversion to dds

If there is any interest on it, it would make sense to think about setting up such a web service. Minimum requirements are an upload directory, some php scripts and a windows based webserver to run the conversion tool on. I think motherlode is based on a linux system, so the conversion tools won't ...

Re: Need HELP for jpg conversion to dds

These textures comes from NASA and are all free, or are on the Public Domain. So there's no problem whatsoever to upload them. True enough, just want to make sure proper credit is given to those who spent their time making the textures look so good. the original 4k Jupiter texture came from this si...

Re: Need HELP for jpg conversion to dds

I converted the 4K Jupiter to dds (as well as the 2K and 1K for med and lo res) for my system. All three in a zip file is 5 MB. I'll be happy to email it to you Why not upload it to the Motherlode? It?s free, and have plenty of room for your work. I have wanted a higher res Jupiter for a long time ...

The CEL URL locations don't seem to be working for me either (1.3.2pre8) but regardless this is a spectacular addon! Thanks!!!

Re: 64k Blue Marble

Hi Dora, I would like to convert my jpeg's into dds. Is it enough to simply convert all installed files or do I have to edit/adapt something? If you have Photoshop, the Nvidia plugin works quite well. Basically like resaving a jpg as any other image format. The latest version of the plugin seems to ...

Joe, you da man! 8) Hopefully I'll get a chance to FTP them to you first thing (a.k.a stat) at work tomorrow where I have T1 access. I don't dare try it at home with a dail-up slowdem, it would probably melt. If I did everything right the directory structure within the zip archives should be exactly...

Re: 64k Blue Marble

FWIW, I was able to convert Jestr's 64K VT to dds with the Nvidia Photoshop plugin. The lastest plugin version supports action scripts in Photoshop which made it go pretty fast. For some reason I've had problems with previous versions. If it's OK with Jestr and there is enough interest, I can contac...

New Nebula Addons

I uploaded some new simple billboard nebula addons for RCW49, MyCn18, and M2-9 to the Celestia Motherlode. They aren't listed on the site yet but are in the archives, here's the links: http://celestiamotherlode.net/creators/davemc/RCW49.zip http://celestiamotherlode.net/creators/davemc/MyCn18.zip ht...

Re: Celestia Motherlode Launch

As much as I *hate* to jump on a band-wagon, I think "Joe's Place" - a much more appropriate name, don't you think? - would be the perfect place to put your textures and add-ons. The one example I have of your work - the Neptune texture - was a beautiful piece of work in my opinion. Share th...

Re: My website, M45, NGC6992, NGC7000 and more

While working on an (as yet incomplete) Addon, I came up with one way to remove stars from a Nebula picture. Selden, Thanks a ton for this tip, I used your technique in Photoshop on B33 and it looks awesome! A more multicolored image like M1 required a bit more patience and hand tweaking to get the...

Re: Mars texture alignment

Is there anyone who knows if Paint Shop Pro 7 has a translation command? Hi Frank, Paint Shop Pro 7 doesn't have any kind of offset command that I can find but it's fairly easy to do manually. I don't have PSP 7 in front of me right now but basically you cut the full image exactly in half width wis...
