Re: New to the forum
Hello Everyone, I am new to the world of astronomy, but i love to know more about it. As i found this Celesta software which seems to be very interesting but i don't know how to use it. So, can anyone help me with it? Jefflawson, start with Frank Gregorio's User's Guide. You can find it in the docu...

My mother taught me that one.
Seems you have a VERY wise mother, Reiko!

Re: Just a test - 64K Moon
Is it possible to make VT textures with your tools using one of my own textures? Like if i made 16k planet texture or something? Hi, Reiko. I think this is one of the main goals of Fridger's tools -- their versatility. Of course you can do exactly that. You just need to combine the "tx2half&qu...

Re: CrossPlatform GUI (Qt) for my F-TexTools/Nmtools
Fridger, I am one of the successful users of your commandline tools. My knowledge about textures was null when I started using Celestia a few years ago. Although I have always much too less time (for my taste) for Celestia, I was regularly reading the forum and some basic documentation provided by t...

Re: following / speed of "go to"
Fabio,
to leave the "Follow" mode (as well as "Chase" or "Sync orbit", whatever you are using), just press the ESC key. You are then in free flight mode.
You may also want to look at the list of controls in the Celestia help menu.
Regards
Andy

Re: Using Celestia like Starry Night
My students could really benefit from having access to a program that would do the work of a commercial one like Starry Night, but wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to get if they buy a used book and the previous owner didn't leave the CD in it. doctorja, if you're looking for free planetarium softwar...

I think this is the time and place to say once again :D :D :D THANK YOU!!! :D :D :D to Fridger for providing these brilliant tools for texture making and the extensive support (documentation, installation guide, .exe files, tutorials, forum ...) In my opinion, Fridger's dedication cannot be respecte...

Link to Celestia wikibook
I think that a link to the Celestia wikibook might also be very useful, perhaps in the documentation section. Probably many people don't know about its existence at all.

Re: Activate only one Constelation
m3ntol, Could you post of version of the file in zip format? I don't have a RAR decompressor, and it looks like WinRAR is shareware. Thanks, --Chris Chris, have you heard of 7-zip? It is the best tool for compressing/decompressing I know. And it is open source. RAR files can be decompressed by 7-zi...

Re: can't see any advanced addon.
I already have tried to debug using the console log, but haven't be able to find the tilde on my keyboard. Well, I exactly know where the tilde is, but the keys which are meant to do the tilde don't have the effect expected. I even tried to switch to US layout (from a swiss french layout), with no ...

Re: Going crazy compiling with VS2005 Express
Andy, It works fine for me. The code hasn't been updated for several days. Sometimes glitches damage the files, causing the mak files to get overwritten, etc. I'd suggest restoring all of Celestia's sourcefiles and then restoring the updated mak files. Yeah, that helped! Thanks again, Selden! Andy

Re: Celestia 1.5.0 & OpenGL 2.0
Thanks to both. I will try it. But, in spite of working fine the 1.4.x version (with OpenGL 2.0), do you really think that it has to do with drivers? Regards, Gallas -- Indeed Celestia 1.5.0 comes with many new features that require recent graphics drivers. Remember that Celestia 1.4.1 is almost tw...

Re: Going crazy compiling with VS2005 Express
Bravo, Selden, that was it ...
Thank you very much for your instructions. (By the way, I am indeed building from the new svn repository.)
Just a question: Should/could I have known that or was it necessary to ask an insider here?
Thanks again
Andy

Re: Coordinate Axes in "Chase" Mode
Frank, the difference is the used coordinate system. Most significant: In chase mode one axis is given by the velocity vector of the selected object. You should see the stars in the background move in chase mode, while in follow mode they stand still. In chase mode you can stay on the sunlit side of...

Re: Localised versions of Celestia Tour scripts?
@ Christian and Andreas: I'm somewhat surprised that you are surprised that I already have this stuff on my hard drive.
